Trauma-Informed Application of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Understanding and Responding to Trauma

Description

Mental Health and Social Service Professionals need to be able to recognize and respond to client stress responses to successfully implement Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Objectives

Professional development in trauma-informed care for social service professionals is imperative for successful implementation of CBT. This interactive training will prepare participants to successfully implement CBT. The series will provide participants with the ability to:

  • Realize the widespread impact of trauma and its impact on cognitive and behavioral processes.
  • Recognize trauma responses disguised as unhealthy interpersonal skills and other mental health symptoms, unwanted behaviors, and presentations such as, but not limited to attrition, low motivation, aggression, avoidance, minimization, resistance, co-dependency, substance use, anxiety disorders, opposition, low self-esteem, anger, etc.
  • Respond with neurobiologically-informed implementation of CBT to enhance clients’ distress tolerance and reduce mental health symptoms.
  • Resist re-traumatization with client-centered, trauma-informed treatment planning informed by third wave CBT strategies.
