My Ethics: Minimizing or Maximizing My Ethical Values

Description:

This training will challenge participants to look at ethics not from an absolute right and wrong perspective but from a continuum perspective that demonstrates how to maximize ethical behavior in a number of foundational ethical principles. The training will include the concepts of Positive Ethics verse Minimal Ethics, understanding not just the what of ethics codes but the why and how ethics code can interact and conflict with personal codes of ethics. Participants will be able to review real life ethical cases and see how the concept of Positive Ethics can be applied to these cases. 

OBJECTIVES

Participants will be able to

  1. Participants will be able to identify and explain the differences of Positive/Ceiling Ethics versus Minimal/Base Ethics.

  2. Participants will be able to ascribe the concept of Aspirational Ethics to foundational ethical principles such as Competence and Beneficence.

  3. Participants will be able to demonstrate how to apply ethical standards to real-life ethical case scenarios.

Presenter:

Scott Breedlove holds a Master of Science Degree in Addiction Studies from the University of South Dakota and has over 17years of experience working with clients and serving in various roles including peer, counselor, supervisor, director and trainer. Scott currently serves as the President of Landmark Recovery of the Capital City. Scott serves as a consultant/trainer for the Missouri State Opioid Response Initiative and for the Mid America Addiction Technology Transfer Center. Scott is a frequent recovery conference speaker across the nation including providing keynote sessions for the Iowa Governor’s Conference on Substance Use, the West Coast Problem Gambling Conference and the Missouri Juvenile Justice Association Conference. Scott will celebrate 30 years of personal long-term recovery in September 2022.

Missouri Institute of Mental Health

The University of Missouri-St. Louis, Missouri Institute of Mental Health will be responsible for this program and maintain a record of your continuing education credits earned.

The Missouri Institute of Mental Health will award 3 clock hours or 3.6 contact hours (.36 CEUs) for this activity.

 

National Board for Certified Counselors

 

MIMH is an NBCC - Approved Continuing Education Provider, No. 6339 (ACEPTM) and may offer NBCC - approved clock hours for events (or programs) that meet NBCC requirements.
